The use of Ctrl+Z in ship design: removing a bulbous bow

Abstract A bulbous bow is a widely employed feature to enhance the hydrodynamic resistance of ships. More than 95% merchant fleet incorporates various types bows reduce wave-making and wave breaking. Bulbous also utilized in smaller vessels like fishing vessels. In certain cases, initial ship design includes addition by default. this study, which focuses on typical Argentinian trawler vessel, we investigate impact resistance. Taking reverse approach, modify vessel removing evaluate its hydrodynamics. This research aims assess reduction achieved under different load conditions speeds, comparing with without bow. The numerical analysis uses OpenFOAM, results are validated through towing tank experiments. demonstrates that performance varies across conditions, indicating not always better.
